And yet, still one of the most politically relevant and coherent performance pieces I’ve yet seen.

But yeah. Dorm room definitely not a good place for a console. Would rather have a handheld—and an old handheld! I can get an old DS refurbished for $70, DS Lite for $90. As long as I remember to take games out of the system (those handheld games hold their value a lot better than console games…), there’s a lot worse things that could be stolen.
And hell, I can get a refurbished PSP for a similar price point.
Guess my point is…I’m not really a customer for the next generation of consoles. I’d sooner play through some of the Pokemon games for the GBA and DS than pick up a PS4.
Watch Angry Joe’s reaction to the Xbox One reveal, and it occurs to me—this’ll kill any amount of game rentals. When I was a kid I rented games all the time and I loved it, but that’s gone for the Xbox One.
And y’know, honestly, I don’t care much about borrowing games from somebody else, I’m fine with that—what I DO care about is the fact that they’re cutting out used games, but the games are still going to be sixty dollars on release. I’d be fine as hell if they made it harder to play used games if, say, console games were dropped to forty or thirty dollars, handhelds to thirty or twenty, instead of being at sixty and forty respectively.
And another problem with stopping used games sales—ever played an old game that’s out of print? You bought it off of ebay or in a game shop? Well that’s gone, that’s done, if you can only play a game on one console—same goes if you’re required to be connected to a server at all times. If that server is shut down, you can’t play that anymore.
Oh, and hey, remember how the 360 was on release? Wasn’t exactly flawless—I can recall a lot of people’s consoles bricking outright. What if my console bricks and I need to get a new one? Does that mean I have to pay my way past a paywall just to play the game that I already bought for myself?
I’m not an intense gamer, certainly, but there’s a lot of games I like, and I can understand all of the ways that Microsoft is going to be shooting themselves in the foot with the Xbox One.
We’ll see what happens in the future, but I’m not confident.
Well it’s summer so it’s Tremors time! Why not revisit the reviews while you enjoy a cold one? Time to blow up some worms!
^_^ These are the videos that got me into Lupa’s stuff. I don’t know why I randomly decided to look at the first Tremors video, I think I just liked the titlecard. But forget about that, watch the videos, they’re wonderful ^_^
